About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
Students who graduate with a Master of Communication will have meta-theoretical analytical skills that allow them to carry out their own research on communication-related issues. Graduates will be able to critically analyse communication processes from multiple perspectives in a range of different domains and work across different public and private sectors, particularly in communication-related industries and institutions. They will have the skills necessary to debate complex issues related to communication in a constructive and rational manner. Graduates will also be able to communicate this knowledge in multiple contexts, using a variety of methods (e.g., written, oral, audio-visual), as well as maintain and promote intellectual integrity and ethical practices during the production of communication research, including tikanga Maori. They will be well-prepared to take on leadership roles in communications and media-related industries and institutions. Depending on their overall GPA, graduates may also be able to continue to doctoral study in communication or cognate fields. Students who have completed COMS 590 Internship or SCIS 589 Science Communication Project will have relevant skills and understanding from experience of communications in the practical workplace.
