About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
Graduates will have the key competencies expected of them as new recruits in the journalism industry, including high quality news gathering and investigative abilities, the capacity to disseminate such investigations in the form of journalism, a critical understanding of media law and ethics, the taking of shorthand, conducting and writing up a major piece of investigative journalism, and creatively preparing news copy for non-print media platforms, such as radio, television and the internet, and critically reflecting on new media practices including the use of social media. Students will demonstrate an ability to take news photography and understand relevant economics and statistical concepts. Graduates will also be able to critically reflect on their reporting activities, including journalisms historical and contemporary role in society, and the students own experiences in finding and publishing journalism, including news reporting and investigative journalism. Graduates will be ready to take up employment, via the programmes strong connections with the journalism industry, including its industry liaison committee and emphasis on student work internships.
