About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
This micro-credential enables ākonga to draw on their understanding of resource management-related legislation and political frameworks and utilise it to complete a Hāpu Plan. The focus of Hāpu Plans is to ensure that Māori interests are considered and incorporated into regional council plans that meet the Resource Management Act 1991 requirements. This micro-credential is targeted at kaimahi who work in regional councils across the motu, members from local hapū and for those who have a vested interest in presenting Māori environmental objectives to influence government laws and policies. Ākonga will further enhance their capability in decision-making based on the Hāpu Plans, which includes engagement with relevant stakeholders to have informed and cultural approaches that align with Māori interests within the region and iwi whilst developing their leadership in this process. This micro-credential will aim to develop ākonga capability to Tikanga relating to resource management, which would navigate and influence decision-making by understanding available resources, financial and engagement opportunities that they can leverage to ensure that the decisions will advocate for Māori economic development and the effective management of resources in line with iwi and regional priorities.
Upon completion, ākonga will be able to complete a Resource Management/Hāpu Plan that aligns with the Māori interests of their community. Furthermore, ākonga can use the plan to make informed decisions aligned with Tikanga regarding resource management. Plans will include provision for access to information, research, and financial resources to ensure planning can be implemented to achieve Māori aspirations.
