About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
This micro-credential enables ākonga to engage with resource management legislation and policy. Ākonga will gain insights into the unique legal rights and obligations that affect taonga, including Māori land, waterways, resources, environmental interests for Māori, as well as the policy considerations that influence hāpu governance. This is aimed at individuals working in regional councils across the motu, specifically in the environmental regional management sector. Ākonga will be exposed to key laws such as the Resource Management Act (RMA), Treaty of Waitangi principles, and local government policies; ākonga will develop the skills needed to navigate and apply these frameworks in the context of Hāpu-led resource management initiatives. These frameworks will effectively contribute to the planning processes that ensure Māori perspectives are considered in traditional rohe and rural and urban contexts.
Upon completion, ākonga will be equipped with knowledge of resource management legislation and policy, including changes in legislation. Ākonga will be supported for the development of Hāpu plans to support decision-making concerning taonga, including Māori land, waterways, resources, and environmental interests for Māori both in traditional rohe and in rural and urban contexts.
