About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
Puawānanga Tapuhi Māori aims to prepare graduates to become competent and reflective New Zealand Registered Nurses who use evidence-based practice and nursing knowledge to provide clinically and culturally safe nursing care to individuals, whānau and communities in Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond, and engage with iwi, hapū, hapori and whānau Māori. This programme is designed and gives priority to ākonga who whakapapa Māori.
It integrates mātauranga Māori approaches to teaching, learning, and clinical practice, underpinned by Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and a commitment to achieve equitable health outcomes for Māori and all health consumers. The programme strongly reflects a Māori worldview, therefore accommodating and privileging mātauranga Māori. All graduates from the programme will be strong in their own identity within Te Ao Māori and be able to serve any community of people and nursing context they choose to work in.
Puawānanga Tapuhi Māori programme is designed to be flexible, with a particular focus on enabling regional and local responsiveness to reflect local community context including local tikanga and mātauranga. Te Pukenga NorthTec will maintain current and build further regional and local relationships with clinical stakeholders.
