About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The Teacher Education Refresh (TER) micro-credential can be awarded to teachers with a NZQA recognised teaching qualification. Completion of this TER micro credential will lead to eligibility to gain provisional teacher registration with the New Zealand Teaching Council.
This is achieved through a short 30 - 35-credit course that aims to provide students with a contemporary understanding and application of ECE in Aotearoa. Students have between 12 weeks and 1 year to complete this micro-credential.
The Teaching Council sets the learning outcomes and professional teacher standards that the students must meet prior to passing the TER course and reapplying for registration.
This course is of particular interest to trained teachers (Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) and Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) who have not gained full registration within 6 years of their Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme or their registration has lapsed. Other teachers including those from overseas or primary teachers wishing to gain an understanding of early childhood education (ECE) in Aotearoa are often interested in taking the TER course.
