Entry requirements
Ākonga must be employed as a Halal slaugherperson in the meat processing sector, in a role that will allow them to carry out halal slaughter and other relevant tasks needed to meet the micro-credential outcomes. A Halal slaughterperson must be a practising Muslim as determined by the approved halal organisation that approved that operator's halal programme.
This micro-credential is suitable for ākonga seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge in halal slaughter and processing requirements.
Entry is subject to the discretion of a Primary ITO representative, who coordinates enrolments, based on discussion with the ākonga and their employer. This discussion considers the ākonga intended skills pathway and the likelihood of success, including access to support and relevant resources.
Entry includes the completion of a training agreement signed by the ākonga, employer, and a Primary ITO representative.

What can I expect out of this qualification?
The overall aim of this micro-credential is to provide industry and ākonga with a short coherent package of training that comprises of the specific skills and knowledge required to meet the customary and procedural requirements of an approved halal programme. This includes understanding the principles and practices of halal slaughter, ensuring adherence to Shariah requirements, and carrying out preparation, slaughter and processing activities of animals according to halal standards.
This aim is achieved by supporting ākonga with both on-job and off-job learning, allowing learning to be applied in a practical way, across a range of situations, within the learner's role in the workplace.
