About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The programme aim is to provide employable graduates with the knowledge and skills to survey buildings and assess building applications against legal requirements and regulations. Graduates will gain knowledge and experience in processing plans, conducting building inspections, preparing for court proceedings, working with building codes and standards, and using digital tools that support building surveying requirements.
The programme provides an entry pathway to building surveying and control for those new to the industry and interested in careers assessing and maintaining the safety and quality of the built environment. It provides a pathway for graduates who hold diploma or past qualifications in building surveying and control and recognises knowledge and skills for those who are currently employed in the industry and seeking career progression.

Minimum requirements
Entry to the Bachelor of Building Surveying and Control programme is open to students who meet the following entry criteria: GENERAL ADMISSION Academic Requirements The award of UE in New Zealand (or equivalent) The following is required to be awarded UE: NCEA Level 3 14 credits at Level 3 in each of three approved subjects. Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of: * 5 credits in reading * 5 credits in writing Numeracy - 10 credits at Level 1 or above, made up of: * achievement standards - specified achievement standards available through a range of subjects, or * unit standards - package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627- all three required), or * numeracy unit standard 32406 OR te pängarau unit standard 32412. (https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/awards/university-entrance/) English Language Requirements Where English is not the Applicant's first language, evidence showing sufficient competence in English to complete this programme successfully is required. International students must demonstrate English proficiency for study at Level 7 in one of the NZQA approved English proficiency tests as set out in the Approval, Recognition and Accreditation Rules 2022 Appendix: Internationally Recognised English Proficiency Outcomes for International Students Equipment requirements Provide own personal protection equipment to enable them to enter safely while on worksites under supervision Mandatory PPE listed below: * Helmet * Hi Viz Vest * Capped boots * Safety glasses Laptop/IT requirements. * Laptop, desktop or tablet with camera and microphone: * Windows 10 or Mac OS or iOS or similar * 4GB RAM * 320GB or greater hard drive * Wireless capability 802. 11n dual band * Unlimited broadband * Wifi data * Up-to-date antivirus software
