Entry requirements
In order to be admitted to the Poutāhū Whakaakoranga Akorau programme you must a. hold a Bachelor's degree at level 7 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) or a higher-level degree b. demonstrate an intermediate to advanced level of te reo Māori c. demonstrate an intermediate level of ICT d. have a strong desire to teach in a kaupapa Māori environment and demonstrate maturity and life experience and be of good character appropriate for teaching children e. Students will require research assistance from an Iwi or Hapū; therefore, candidates for the programme need to be able to provide the written commitment of support from their Iwi/Hapū. f. be at least 20 years of age. What can I expect out of this qualification?
Poutāhū Whakaakoranga Akorau is a one-year Postgraduate Diploma offered to holders of an undergraduate degree that wish to begin a career in teaching in Māori immersion or bilingual classroom environments. Enhance your skills by implementing kaupapa Māori based blending learning options through technology (ICT) in the classroom. This course is taught in te reo Māori. This qualification aims to produce bilingual, culturally aware teachers who have the exemplary skills to deliver Māori contextualised, learner centred quality teaching and learning in the primary sector. They will be research active practitioners who competently plan, implement, assess and lead kaupapa Māori informed blended teaching and learning.
