Poutuarongo Whakaakoranga Kōhungahunga is a three-year, bilingual, early childhood teacher education degree that focuses on the uniqueness of mokopuna, whānau, hapū and iwi as a beginning point, with the ultimate goal of re-designing curriculum, pedagogy and evaluation processes relevant to culturally responsive education.
NZQA and Teaching Council have agreed on arrangements for the joint approval and accreditation of ITE degree applications whose graduates are eligible to register with the Teaching Council. This application has been processed in conformity with these arrangements, and on 30 November 2022 at panel, the Teaching Council verbally approved this application.

What can I expect out of this qualification?
The programme provides ākonga with the necessary knowledge and attitudes needed to access and impart "taonga tuku iho", as drawn from the study of iwi and hapū values, knowledge, and institutions, in a way that is consistent with the notion of a Māori world view curriculum and its application in kaupapa Māori educational contexts.The programme also aims to develop the student's proficiency to successfully administer the delivery of curriculum as it applies to Māori Medium and English medium early childhood sectors.
