Poutuarongo Whakaakoranga Wharekura (Taumata 7, Rumaki Reo, EBITE) is a unique qualification and programme. Its strategic purpose is to produce employable graduates with requisite teaching competencies to fulfil teaching roles and functions specifically in the wharekura context. To increase the number of culturally fit practitioners in the teaching profession to address the shortage of teacher supply in the wharekura (secondary school) sector.

Minimum requirements
Every candidate for Poutuarongo Whakaakoranga Wharekura must be committed to te reo Maaori, maatauranga Maori, tikanga Maaori, whakatupu maatauranga and ngaa kaupapa o Te Waananga o Raukawa. They must show commitment to fulfilling the requirements of the programme including attendance and assessment requirements. To gain admission into the programme all candidates must meet the specific entry criteria. All tauira are subject to the Te Wananga o Raukawa academic regulations available at www.wananga.com and additional PWW criteria. Additional PWW Entry Criteria: Provide a letter of endorsement from their wharekura principal of the school s support and the applicants suitability for the programme as well as confirming the applicant is employed and is likely to remain employed for the period of study in a wharekura environment (paid or voluntary) for at least 20 hours per week at the start of the programme. Ideally, be current or pending holders of a Limited Authority to Teach (LAT) and provide evidence that they hold a Limited Authority to teach (LAT). Provide a detailed CV including a full documentation of their educational history and background. Has an identified poumaru who is an identified mentor from within the employing wharekura and holds a current Full Practising Certificate, provides a letter of endorsement, and commits to the ongoing support and mentoring of the tauira throughout the programme. Complete a Police Vet and be adjudged fit and proper to the profession s standards and requirements under the Vulnerable Children s Act. Or by Special Admission: In rare exceptions the puukenga matua may accept an enrolment that does not meet the full requirements; however, the puukenga matua has assessed by evidence, the desire, commitment and ability of the tauira to meet the programme requirements and is satisfied that the applicant is worthy of selection.
