About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification provides the wider building and construction industry with graduates who have the knowledge, skills and aptitude required to undertake on-site supervision of construction related teams and work programmes.

This qualification is targeted at people who have technical knowledge, skills and experience in a construction related trade and wish to gain the additional knowledge and skills required to supervise construction related teams and work programmes.

Graduates will be able to self-manage their own learning and performance while also supervising construction related teams and work programmes to achieve expected commercial standards.

Graduates of the Residential Building strand will also have the required knowledge and skills to supervise on-site operations of residential building teams and work programmes. This strand supports the Licensed Building Practitioners scheme administered by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), and provides eligibility for a streamlined application process towards Carpentry Licence Class and Site Licence Area of Practice 1.

Graduates of the Commercial Construction strand will also have the required knowledge and skills to supervise on-site operations of commercial construction teams and work programmes.

Graduates of the Construction Related Trades strand will also have the required knowledge and skills to supervise on-site operations of specific construction related trades teams and work programmes.

Graduates of the Construction Related Manufacturing strand will also have the required knowledge and skills to supervise on-site operations of specific construction related manufacturing teams and work programmes.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4) or equivalent or relevant industry experience and skills. Must be employed in the construction industry in New Zealand in a supervisory role or as a tradesperson with a level of opportunity for supervision. Domestic applicants with English as a Second language must be proficient in English language. International applicants: o Must be at least 18 years old o Require an IELTS General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5, or equivalent under Rule18 o Hold a relevant visa as required.
