About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The Bachelor of Construction (Quantity Surveying) prepares students for work-readiness in technical and professional roles associated with the pricing and managing of construction projects, both nationally and internationally. The Site Management major provides career staircasing for those already working in construction with trade backgrounds into more senior site management, pricing, or project management roles. The Quantity Surveying major provides a career pathway into pricing, project management or consultant quantity surveying roles.

The Bachelor of Construction provides pathways into professional body membership such as the New Zealand Institute of Building (NZIOB) and, for quantity surveying graduates, into the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NZIQS).

Minimum requirements

Entry Requirements - Quantity Surveying - If you are under 20, you must have NCEA Level 3 including 14 credits at Level 3 or above in three NZQA approved university entrance subjects, and Literacy: 10 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of 5 credits in reading and 5 credits in writing, and Numeracy: 12 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of: specified achievement standards available through a range of subjects OR package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627- all three required). - If you are over 20, you must supply evidence of industry experience and/or alternative relevant qualifications. Entry Requirements - Site Management - Applicants must be working in the New Zealand construction industry in a supervisory role or have the opportunity to move into a supervisory role during the course of this study. - Applicants must hold a New Zealand construction-related trade qualification at level 4, or similar. - All applicants will be interviewed to assess suitability for the major, and to agree a path of study. Additional Requirements - both majors - Those applicants who do not meet the academic entry criteria may still be given provisional entry to year one at the discretion of the Head of Department. - International students must also demonstrate English language skills equivalent to an IELTS overall band score (Academic) of 6.0, with no band score less than 5.5, from one test taken in the preceding two years.
