About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of the MIT is to provide the IT sector with graduates with a high level of technical skill, and with a high level of intellectual rigour. Graduates will be capable of identifying problems in different contexts, of critically reviewing relevant IT literature, and of designing and executing a coherent research plan. Graduates will be able to critically analyse the results of research projects, and use these results to make and argue for recommendations solving the identified problem.
The Software Development specialist topic equips students with the skills to pursue the discipline for analysing requirements and design, implement, test and deploy a software application. The Information Systems specialist topic deals with the acquisition, storage, transformation and analysis of data and information within a business setting. The Networks and Security specialist topic deals with the technical issues involved in designing, implementing and administering computer networks.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
A candidate for admission to this programme of study shall: (a) hold a Bachelor's degree (at least equivalent to New Zealand pass standard), in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study; or (b) hold a Graduate Diploma or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study or (c) hold a Bachelor's with Honours degree (at least equivalent to New Zealand pass standard), in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study; or (d) hold a Postgraduate Diploma (level 8) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field of study; and (e) have an English level equivalent to Academic IELTS 6.5 (with no band less than 6) or (f) gain approval under Admission Regulation 1.3: Special Admission. An English language skill of at least Academic IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, with no band less than 6.0, will be required for whom English is not their first language.
