About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the air traffic services sector of the aviation industry with individuals who have advanced specialist knowledge and skills to operate as licenced and rated air traffic controllers.

Graduates will be qualified to operate as air traffic controllers within a specialist area, and will be accountable for the continuous decisions they make, under the appropriate Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) rules, and aligned with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulatory requirements for air traffic services.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

To be admitted to this programme Learners will be selected by Airways and must meet the following criteria: * Be at least 20 years of age; and * New Zealand citizens or residents; and * Hold a current Civil Aviation Authority Class 3 medical certificate issued under CAR Part 67; and * Hold a flight radiotelephone operator rating; and * Be proficient to at least Level 4 (Operational) of the ICAO Language Proficiency Rating Scale, and * hold a valid NZCAA Air Traffic Trainee Licence. Have at least 5 hours experience on the flight deck of an aircraft in controlled airspace; and * Be able to evidence that they are already able to integrate the knowledge, skills and attitudes required of a professional Air Traffic Controller in a simulated variable, dynamic surveillance, or aerodrome environment to provide for safe air travel and be accountable for decisions made
