About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The PGDIT provides a first step into postgraduate study for students who wish to pursue a research-oriented academic career, or who wish to enter the IT industry at a higher-than entry-level position. It does this by equipping students with the advanced technical skills, or the skills in independent research, that are required to succeed in either of these career paths.
These technical and research skills are reinforced by the structure and aims of each of the three specialist topics that are available: Software Development; Information Systems; and Networks and Security. Each of these specialist topics requires in-depth knowledge of technical subjects, acquired through sustained independent study and scholarship.
The Software Development specialist topic equips students with the skills to pursue the discipline for analysing requirements and design, implement, test and deploy a software application. The Information Systems specialist topic deals with the acquisition, storage, transformation and analysis of data and information within a business setting. The Networks and Security specialist topic deals with the technical issues involved in designing, implementing and administering computer networks.
