About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
This qualification aims to produce bilingual, culturally aware teachers who have the exemplary skills to deliver Māori contextualised, learner centred quality teaching and learning in the primary sector. They will be research active practitioners who competently plan, implement, assess and lead kaupapa Māori informed blended teaching and learning.
The purpose of the Poutāhū Whakaakoranga Akorau is to provide the primary school sector and in particular total immersion and bilingual kura with teachers who bring multiple competencies to the classroom and teaching practices informed by mātauranga Māori that are responsive to the needs of Māori learners.
Graduates will be able to work independently in teaching roles and work collaboratively to assist in planning, organising and leading activities within kura to advance the long-term educational propsects of whānau, hapū and iwi.

Minimum requirements
"Entry Requirements a. In order to be admitted to the Poutahu Whakaakoranga Akorau programme applicants must: have completed: a Bachelor s degree at level 7 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) consisting of at least 360 credits; or a Bachelor s degree with Honours at level 8 on the NZQF consisting of at least 480 credits; or a Master s degree at level 9 on the NZQF consisting of 240 credits b. demonstrate an intermediate to advanced level of te reo Maori c. demonstrate an intermediate level of ICT d. complete a literacy and numeracy assessment e. have a strong desire to teach in a kaupapa Maori environment f. demonstrate maturity and life experience and meet the Good Character and Fit to be a Teacher policy g. declare any criminal convictions h. complete the standard police vet process i. attend a selection interview j. meet the Te Wananga o Raukawa general academic regulations "
