What can I expect out of this qualification?
This qualification is for people who want to develop a comprehensive understanding of tikanga in a specialist field founded on a Māori worldview.
Graduates of this qualification will have comprehensive knowledge and skills to manage and lead the practice of tikanga in dynamic contexts.
Graduates of this qualification will be able to apply comprehensive knowledge fundamental to tikanga practices across the community in general.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
- Akonga must be atleast 16 years of age (unless exemption from attending school has been granted) at the commencement of the programme. An exemption from attending school may be granted by a person designated under sections 21 or 26 of the Education Act 1989, by a school principal from a school in which the prospective akonga is registered, or by the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Education. - Akonga must be New Zealand citizens (or citizens of Australia, Tokelau, Niue, Cool Islands) or permanent residents. - Akonga may only enrol in more than one programme concurrently if the dual programme options are approved by Te Rautiaki Matauranga. - Akonga must have an interest in learning about Maori cultural practices that may be applied at home, on the marae and/or within their respective areas of work. - Attend a programme information sharing hui with the programme kaiako. To enter this programme, tauira must be: 1. 16 years or older 2. A New Zealand citizen (which includes citizens of Cook Island, Niue and Tokelau) 3. A New Zealand permanent resident currently living in New Zealand 4. Hold Te Hapütanga o Te Ao Tikanga (Level 5) or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. SELECTION CRITERIA 5. Tauira must have an interest in learning about Mäori cultural practices that may be applied at home, on the marae and/or within their respective areas of work. 6. Attend an information sharing hui with the programme kaiako.
