What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is for people who want to develop in-depth understanding and knowledge of tikanga within a specialist field founded on a Māori worldview.
Graduates of this qualification will have in-depth knowledge and skills to self-manage and contribute to the practice of tikanga within defined contexts.
Graduates of this qualification will be able apply comprehensive knowledge fundamental to tikanga practices across the community in general.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Students enrolling on the Diploma in Waka qualification: a) must have successfully completed the Certificate in Waka (Level 4) b) be aware they need to complete the water survival competency test to successfully complete the Level 5 programme. c) must complete an HS40 Medical Information form to provide relevant medical information that will ensure any health and safety requirements are met and that in an emergency prompt assistance can be provided. Students enrolling on the Diploma in Rongoa qualification must: - hold the Certificate in Rongoa Level 4 [Ref: HACR401] or - hold the Certificate in Rongoa Maori Appreciation Level 4 TMRM101 and a New Zealand Certificate in Tikanga (Level 4) or - hold the Certificate in Rongoa Maori Appreciation Level 4 TMRM101 and 100 hours of rongoa practice attested to by a rongoa practitioner affiliated to Te Kahui Rongoa or a rongoa practitioner recognized by iwi/hapu. To enter this programme, tauira must be: 1. 16 years or older 2. A New Zealand citizen (which includes citizens of Cook Island, Niue and Tokelau) 3. A New Zealand permanent resident currently living in New Zealand 4. Hold Te Kunenga o Te Ao Tikanga (Level 4) or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. SELECTION CRITERIA 5. Tauria must have an interest in learning about Mäori culture practices that may be applied at home, on the marae and/or within their respective areas of work. 6. Attend an information sharing hui with the programme kaiako.
