What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this entry level qualification is to provide the fishing industry with people who are licensed under the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel (STCW-F) to work as crew on fishing vessels. They will be able to work under general supervision in the coastal, offshore and unlimited operational limits as specified in the Maritime NZ Seafarer Certification and Operational Limits Framework.
This qualification is for people intending to enter the industry or for fishing crew moving to a role where a Maritime NZ Advanced Deckhand - Fishing certificate may be required.

Minimum requirements
Academic Entry: * Open Entry International applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency, issued within the last two years, before being eligible to enrol in any non-English programme. The level of competency required is outlined in Rule 18 and Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme and Accreditation Rules 2013 and below under the title English Competency. Level 3 certificate IELTS General or Academic score of 5 with no band score lower than 5 or completed NZ Certificate in English Language L3 or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in Rule 18 and Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme and Accreditation Rules 2013 For domestic applicants for whom English is not their first language evidence of language competency may be required.
