About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the airline and military sector of the aviation industry with individuals who have attained sufficient operational skills and knowledge to provide safe, secure and customer-friendly in-flight services, for domestic and/or international flights in either a commercial or non-commercial organisation as a flight attendant tūmau waka rererangi.
Graduates will be equipped with a comprehensive set of skills relating to aviation safety and security, and customer service. Their applied skills and knowledge will involve working under broad guidance, and they may also have some responsibility for the performance of others.
The optional strand in Operator Specific Operational Flight Attending recognises the specific knowledge and skills acquired whilst performing all the duties required of a flight attendant tūmau waka rererangi on operational flights.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Academic Entry at least 40 credits at NCEA Level 2 and 10 Literacy credits at Level 1, 10 Numeracy credits at Level 2. International applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency issued within the last two years, before being eligible to enrol in any non-English programme. IELTS academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 or completed NZ Certificate in English Language Level 4 with the Academic endorsement. Domestic applicants for whom English is not their first language evidence of language competency may be required. Students must also be able to gain a passport without restrictions, be 18 years old or older upon completion of the qualification due to the requirements of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act (2012 or international equivalent), must be able to meet the relevant aviation regulatory authority, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) or NZ Defence Force (NZDF) security vetting standards.
