About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide Christian churches, agencies and community organisations with people who are able to evaluate and deliver ministry programmes within their specialist area(s) and lead a wide range of Christian operations.

This qualification is stranded in order to recognise the specific knowledge and skills required in a variety of occupations and contexts in Christian churches agencies, community organisation and not-for profit organisations.

Graduates will benefit by having a qualification which recognises their broad understanding of theology and biblical foundations, evaluation, strategic thinking, and applied Christian leadership skills; enhancing their employment opportunities and/or ability to work in a voluntary capacity.

This qualification focuses on the application of the principles of theology, biblical foundations and ministry in a community of practice through the delivery of programmes and is targeted at individuals who are ready for positions of leadership in a variety of roles. This qualification is also targeted at current practitioners who want to upskill in a particular area of management and/or leadership.

Graduates will be capable of working autonomously within established parameters with some responsibility for the management of learning and performance of others.

Minimum requirements

Academic requirements: NCEA L2 OR NZ Certificate in Christian Ministry (L4) with strand in Internship or equivalent. Note: A qualification or examination other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), will be assessed by NMIT for academic entry equivalency. Alternative requirements: Applicants unable to evidence that they meet Academic Entry Requirements, but who can demonstrate acquired skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, may be approved for alternative entry by the Curriculum Manager (or delegate). English language requirements: Result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Table: * IELTS 5.5 Academic (no lower than 5.0 in each band), Note: Applicants who do not have evidence of English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, may contact NMIT for an assessment. Applicants who have achieved NCEA L3 University Entrance requirements are not required to provide evidence of English language skills. IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test. Other requirements: In order to comply with the provisions of the Vulnerable Children's Act, 2014 and Child Protection Policies for all 'specified organisations' providing a 'regulated service', all candidates/students will be subjected to safety checks. These will include but are not limited to; i) A Formal Interview ii) Referee Checks iii) A Police Vet Check iv) A Risk Assessment Any unsatisfactory result arising from the full safety checking process may result in the candidate/student being precluded/declined entry or withdrawn from the programme of study. Applicants must declare any pending or new convictions arising during any stage throughout the entire enrolment period. A conviction or failure to declare a conviction may also result in immediate withdrawal from the programme
