What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the mining and quarrying industry with second-line supervisors or managers who have a broad-base of technical expertise and skills in leadership and in short- to medium-term operational planning. The mining and quarrying industry includes surface and underground sectors. The surface sector can include mining, quarrying, and/or processing. The underground sector can include mining or tunnelling.

This qualification is targeted at first-line supervisors from within the industry, or supervisors with related experience, or university graduates, who are looking to enter the mining and quarrying industry.

Learners will benefit by having a qualification which recognises technical and leadership skills and knowledge to enable improved job performance, and a credential to enhance employment opportunities.

The mining and quarrying industry will benefit by having supervisors with the skills and knowledge to undertake and implement short- to medium-term operational planning for a workplace.

The strands recognise specialist skills and knowledge specific to the surface and underground sectors within the mining and quarrying industry. Graduates will be capable of working in an autonomous supervisory or management capacity at a workplace within their specialist strand, and are likely to have control over a mining and quarrying operation, or a unit within a mining and quarrying operation.
