What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the underground mining industry with miners and tunnellers who are familiar with mining or tunnelling processes, mobile plant, machinery, and/or equipment and are able to carry out mining or tunnelling tasks. Underground mining can include mining or tunnelling.
The qualification has a significant health and safety component in recognition of the hazards associated with the underground mining environment.
This qualification is targeted at school-leavers or new workers in the industry, as well as those in the industry seeking formal recognition of their skills and knowledge.
Learners will benefit by having a qualification which recognises the skills and knowledge of a competent miner or tunneller to enable improved job performance and a credential to enhance employment opportunities.
The underground mining industry will benefit by having miners and tunnellers with the skills and knowledge to competently undertake a range of tasks within the workplace.
Graduates will have the necessary skills and knowledge to work safely within the underground mining environment under limited supervision.
