About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the electrotechnology industry sectors with people who are able to install and maintain networks and systems or service and repair a diverse range of end-user appliances, goods and/or equipment at a non-complex level.
This qualification is suitable for people who wish to pursue a career in the electrotechnology installation and maintenance or service and repair industry sectors.
Graduates of the Installation Strand will be able to undertake the installation, maintenance, restoration, scoping and connectivity of efficient, reliable, and secure data and communication systems and hardware, and be able to operate as technicians at an intermediate level where no prescribed electrical work is required.
Graduates of the Service Strand will be able to diagnose, repair and service a diverse range of end-user appliances, and goods and/or equipment at a non-complex level and supervise electrical workers. They will also be eligible to be registered and licensed as an Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (endorsed to disconnect and connect) (EAS endorsed).

Minimum requirements

Trainees who are working towards the Service strand in this programme must hold a Trainee Limited Certificate (TLC) issued by the EWRB. Details of both the Supervision guidelines for trainees and the TLC are available from the EWRB website at http://www.ewrb.govt.nz. The TLC must be uplifted within the first three months of commencing training. ICE may enrol trainees working in New Zealand under work visas into this programme without being a signatory to The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021, until 31 December 2023.
