About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the hospitality sector with people who are able to work as junior or trainee hospitality managers, supervisors or team leaders across a range of hospitality sectors.
Graduates will have enhanced employment opportunities within junior or trainee hospitality management, supervisor or team leader roles across a range of establishments in the hospitality sector.
This qualification establishes standards of professional practice for hospitality managers, supervisors or team leaders in a junior or trainee role that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
Graduates will be able to work autonomously in a range of hospitality environments with some responsibility for the management and learning of others.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Domestic Students must be a minimum 17 years of age and have any NCEA Level 3 or university entrance or a qualification in hospitality, tourism and travel at Level 4 or equivalent knowledge and experience (1 years + work experience in tourism and/or hospitality at Academic Director discretion). Students who do not meet the entry criteria might still be allowed to enrol in the programme provided they can demonstrate considerable knowledge and experience relating to the Hospitality sector International students must be a minimum of 18 years of age and must have an appropriate level of English proficiency as specified by NZQA for the level at which they intend to study i.e. IELTS Academic score of 5.5, with no band score lower than 5.0; or the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) (Level 4) [Ref: 1883] or equivalent approved by NZQA. There are no other mandatory entry requirements, but students may be assessed prior to enrolment to ensure they have adequate literacy, numeracy and academic skills to achieve the outcomes of this programme.
