About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is:
- To supply the food and beverage sector with employees who are able to provide service in cafes and unlicensed restaurants, quick-service restaurants, bars or clubs, restaurants offering table or buffet service, establishments catering functions in-house, or baristas.
- To provide a credential for those individuals who are employed as service personnel that will support their employment opportunities across a range of establishments in the hospitality sector.
- To establish standards of professional practice for basic service that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
The strands in this qualification allow graduates to specialise in an area of food and beverage service.
Graduates will be able to operate to provide food and/or beverage service in a casual dining or bar context.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (Level 3) with strands in Café Services, Bar Services, Restaurant Services, Buffet Services, Functions Services, Barista, and Quick Service Restaurants Services Application by Academic Qualification Applicants under 20 years: Are a minimum of 16 years of age, with preferably, 4 years of secondary education. Applicants over 20 years: Applicants over the age of 20 years at the time of enrolment will be considered where they can demonstrate the ability to succeed in a programme. An aptitude for, and interest in, digital media and design as a realistic career choice or personal development. Demonstration of the above may include samples of work in a portfolio, academic results or submission of references. They may be admitted subject to programme regulations approved by the Head of Faculty in consultation with the Programme Manager as appropriate. Personal commitment and a belief in one s own ability to succeed are important personal traits and will always be taken into consideration during the selection process
