About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is:
- To provide competent employees for the hospitality sector who are able to work as chefs in intermediate positions producing complex dishes in a commercial kitchen.
- To provide a credential for those employed as chefs in intermediate positions, that will enhance their employment opportunities in a commercial kitchen across the hospitality sector.
- To establish standards of professional practice for complex cookery that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
Graduates will be able to operate in a commercial kitchen as chefs in an intermediate position producing complex dishes.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
Have achieved NZ Certificate in New Zealand Certificate in Cookery Level 3 OR Have achieved NZ Certificate in Hospitality L2 OR Demonstrate introductory cookery knowledge and skills. Meet NCEA L1 Literacy and Numeracy Requirement, or provide evidence of achievement at a higher level AND Have basic computer skills.
